Daily lesson plan template

For everyday lessons a simple structure is enough: a do now task as students come in, a short mini-lesson, a practice activity and an exit ticket. It keeps routines consistent and planning quick.

Lesson sequence

Saved you some time? Leave a tip, entirely optional.

Pick your period length and start time, fill in each stage and print. The plan fits on one page next to your register or on your desk.

How to plan a lesson with LessonPlanKit

Choose a lesson model from the toolbar and type the length of your class. LessonPlanKit divides the minutes across the stages of that model, with whole minutes that add up exactly. Enter a start time to turn every stage into a clock time such as 9:10–9:23, which is useful when you glance at the plan mid-lesson. Then fill in the title, subject, grade and date, write your objectives and list standards, materials and key vocabulary.

Each stage has a name, its minutes and a box for the activity, with a prompt reminding you what that stage is for. Rename stages, move them up, delete them or add new ones. The running total turns red when the stages no longer match the lesson length; press Re-split time to share the minutes out again.

    Measurable objectives

An objective is measurable when you could watch a student and say whether they did it. “Students will understand fractions” is hard to observe; “students will be able to order three fractions on a number line” is not. LessonPlanKit flags vague verbs such as understand, know, learn and appreciate, and suggests observable ones such as identify, explain, compare, solve, write, classify and justify. It also reminds you to end with a check for understanding.

    Printing and sharing

Print / save PDF prints only the plan, with a timed table of the lesson sequence, on a single page for most lessons. Copy as text pastes neatly into a planning document, an email to a teaching assistant or a cover note for a substitute teacher.

    Private by design

LessonPlanKit has no accounts and no server. Your plan is saved in local storage on this device only and is never uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

How long should a mini-lesson be?

Often 10 to 15 minutes. Students learn more by practising than by listening for long stretches.

    What is a do now?

A short task on the board that students start immediately, often reviewing the previous lesson.

What makes a good exit ticket?

One or two questions that directly test the day’s objective and take under five minutes.

    Is LessonPlanKit free?

Yes. Planning, printing and copying lesson plans is free with no sign-up.

    Is my lesson plan uploaded?

No. It is saved only in this browser on this device.
